Catholic Elderly Care at Caritas Association Sigmaringen

The development of Catholic elderly care at the Caritas Association for the Deanery of Sigmaringen-Meßkirch e.V. was supported and expanded through funding from the GlücksSpirale lottery.

Our association is the provider of many services in the field of elderly care and nursing. The goal was to further develop Catholic elderly care with all our partners, especially the Church Social Stations, in our association’s area.

Particularly in rural areas, there are many structural challenges. We wanted to identify gaps in care and find solutions in close networking and cooperation with our partners.

Which Focus Areas Were Developed or Further Developed

Caritas Center St. Martin from March 2020

A new home is offered to a total of 45 residents
15 designated short-term care places are maintained (high demand)
Social Station St. Heimerad
Day care with 12 places, which will be operated by St. Heimerad
Charitable social service
Additional services such as meals on wheels, stationary lunch service, open consultation hours for the Meßkirch population, and much more

Collaboration

Especially in the interaction of such diverse and different services in the area of outpatient, semi-inpatient, and inpatient care, many content-related questions have arisen.

We are grateful to have found a project manager in Ms. Romana Weißenbach, who, as a trained nurse with comprehensive and specific further education and training, had the necessary qualifications to discuss and clarify the aforementioned content-related questions together with colleagues and all other involved partners on site.

We are convinced that we have developed a good range of elderly care and nursing services for the population, especially in our structurally weak area.

We are particularly grateful for the support from the GlücksSpirale lottery. Over our three project years, they provided us with almost €150,000, which has significantly helped us implement our ideas and plans.

From its proceeds, GlücksSpirale supports various charitable organizations, e.g., Workers’ Welfare Association, Caritas, the Parity Welfare Association, the German Red Cross, the Diaconal Work, and the Central Welfare Office of Jews in Germany. Since 1976, the Free Welfare Care has been involved in the lottery. Since then, numerous projects and ideas have been implemented for the benefit of many people with the help of GlücksSpirale. We are also grateful that we were able to benefit from this funding.
